Baker Mayfield was on the edge of his seat Sunday watching the Falcons and Saints decide the Buccaneers’ fate — a scene that had the quarterback’s wife channeling her inner play-by-play caller on social media.
Taking to her Instagram Stories, Emily Mayfield recapped the situation unfolding in her house as Mayfield, 30, anxiously tuned in to the Falcons-Saints tilt in Atlanta, where the 19-17 win by the home team handed Carolina the NFC South title.
“Watching Baker watch football as a ‘fan’ is hilarious … haven’t seen him this stressed in a minute,” Emily Mayfield posted to her Instagram Stories.
Emily, who is expecting her second child with Mayfield, later shared a video of the quarterback staring at the TV. A separate slide featured the former first-overall pick retreating to an island countertop in the kitchen.
The Buccaneers, winners of four straight NFC South titles, lost seven of nine games following a Week 9 bye that dropped them to 8-9.
They finished the regular season Saturday with a 16-14 win over Carolina, with the Panthers also ending the 2025 campaign at 8-9.
The Falcons’ win Sunday resulted in a three-way tie at the top of the NFC South at 8-9.
Carolina held the three-team timebreaker over Tampa Bay to secure its first division title since 2015.
Mayfield has been with the Buccaneers since 2023, when he agreed to a one-year deal to replace the retired Tom Brady.
Upon guiding the Buccaneers to a 9-8 record and an NFC South title in his first year under center, he agreed to a three-year, $100 million extension with the club.
Mayfield was the Browns’ first-overall pick in 2018.
