Caitlin Clark’s revolutionary 2024 includes one more honor.
The WNBA star was named the Time Athlete of the Year after she helped change the sports landscape forever during a year in which she dominated both the college basketball and WNBA seasons.
In the article, Clark talks about her rise to fame, her rivalry with Angel Reese and dealing with the narratives that clouded it all.
“I’ve been able to captivate so many people that have never watched women’s sports, let alone women’s basketball, and turn them into fans,” Clark told the magazine.
The popularity of women’s basketball has skyrocketed with Clark at the forefront with record ratings numbers for the NCAA Tournament this past year.
Clark led Iowa to the national championship game for the second straight season in March, was the No. 1 pick of the Indiana Fever a month later and helped lead a franchise turnaround that ended in a playoff berth and her being named WNBA Rookie of the Year.
Clark and Reese’s rivalry has been at the forefront of many of the storylines since Reese’s LSU team beat Clark’s Iowa team in the 2023 national championship game.
Reese now stars for the Sky.
“I don’t get that at all,” Clark said. “We’re not best friends, by any means, but we’re very respectful of one another. Yes, we have had tremendous battles. But when have I ever guarded her? And when has she guarded me?”
