Caitlin Clark’s Fever have built the biggest threat to the Liberty’s repeat chances

In roughly two months, the reigning champion Liberty will reconvene in Brooklyn for training camp. 

Memories of the hard-fought, five-game battle, followed by hugs, happy tears, confetti cannons and celebration will flood back like the beer and champagne that was poured that October night and in the succeeding days. There’s sure to be remnants of last season’s success all throughout the depths of Barclays Center. 

Then, the reality that none of what happened in 2024 matters in 2025 will sink in. The Liberty want to win it all again this year, and they’re in position to be a contender. 

The core group — Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, Betnijah Laney-Hamilton and Jonquel Jones — will be back, though key reserves Kayla Thornton and Courtney Vandersloot will not.
