Caleb Williams’ dad sparks Bears controversy over deleted coaching tweet

The father of Bears quarterback Caleb Williams is adamant that his message praising the accountability of the Commanders’ coaching staff was not a dig at his son’s coaches.

The Bears committed a series of astounding unforced errors before ultimately losing to Washington on Sunday.

Thursday, NFL Network reporter Nicki Jhabvala posted comments from Commanders defensive coordinator Joe Whitt, who claimed that he missed quarterback Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary to Noah Brown because he was busy stewing over his unit having given up a touchdown drive in which Bears running back Roschon Johnson scored in the final minute.

“We should close the game, finish the game in those winning moments, and I blame myself,” Whitt said.

“We were in a solid call, but there was a better call that I should’ve gone to…”

Williams’ father, Carl, responded to this message with a quote-post on X: “#accountability #realcoach.”

He later deleted the tweet.

The series of blunders from Sunday included the Bears calling a trick rushing play on the goal line for offensive lineman Doug Kramer Jr. which resulted in a fumble, plus allowing Daniels to get in position to complete a Hail Mary the play before by giving up an easy completion to the sidelines near mid-field.

Then, on the Hail Mary play, Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson was caught on tape taunting Commanders fans after Daniels had snapped the ball, and Eberflus later revealed that Stevenson was supposed to be boxing Brown out.

Carl Williams would be among the legion of Bears fans questioning the coaching staff over the devastating loss.

Nevertheless, Shane Riordan of 670 the Score in Chicago caught up with Williams’ father, who insisted it wasn’t a veiled shot at the Bears’ coaching staff.

“Innocent comment. I like what the Commanders are doing over there. I know some of those guys. Nothing to do with the Bears.”
