The Cleveland Cavaliers feel good about the direction of the franchise. The team made a move to keep its front office together for years to come Monday, reportedly signing president of basketball operations Koby Altman to a long-term extension, per ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Altman, 42, will reportedly remain with the team through the 2029-30 NBA season, per Charania.
The move comes months after the Cavaliers secured the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference thanks to a 64-18 record. The team reached the second round of the playoffs, where it lost to the Indiana Pacers in five games.

It was a disappointing result considering the team’s excellent regular-season record, though injuries played a major role in the Cavaliers’ early exit. Donovan Mitchell, Evan Mobley, Darius Garland and De’Andre Hunter all battled injuries during the series, with Mobley, Garland and Hunter all missing time.
Altman first joined the Cavaliers’ front office in 2012 and gradually worked his way up through the organization. He served as the team’s assistant general manager during the 2016-17 NBA season and was promoted to general manager in 2017. He received a contract extension in 2019 and was promoted to his current role in 2022.

Altman is credited with bringing in a number of key players who contributed to the team’s recent resurgence. He oversaw the drafting of both Garland and Mobley and acquired Mitchell in a trade.
With the team coming off its best regular-season performance since the 2008-09 season, Altman has mostly shored up the team’s depth, bringing back Sam Merrill, signing Larry Nance Jr. and trading for Lonzo Ball.
