The Los Angeles Chargers are holding their breath on wide receiver Quentin Johnston.

The former first-round pick exited a preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams after taking a hard hit to the helmet from Rams safety Tanner Ingle. No flag was called on the play, which was the Chargers offense’s third play of the game.

The hit left Johnston on the field in an apparent fencing response.

After receiving some attention from trainers, Johnston was able to stand up on his own and walk to the cart, which took him back to the locker room, likely for further testing.

The 23-year-old Johnston is coming off an encouraging sophomore season in which he posted 55 receptions, 711 receiving yards and eight touchdowns for a new-look Chargers offense. If healthy, he is expected to once again play a key role in the team’s passing attack alongside Ladd McConkey, the returning Keenan Allen and second-round rookie Tre Harris.
