The logical pairing of Matt Nagy and the Titans could take a concrete step soon, with Tennessee requesting to interview the Chiefs’ offensive coordinator — and former Bears head coach — for their coaching vacancy.
Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo was also requested for the opening, which was created when Brian Callahan was fired in October, along with Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph and Colts defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo, according to multiple reports Monday.
Nagy, who began his second stint in Kansas City in 2022 and has served as their offensive coordinator for the last three years, overlapped with Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi while with the Chiefs, as did Spagnuolo, the defensive coordinator since 2019.

Across four seasons with the Bears from 2018-21, Nagy collected a 34-31 record and made two postseason appearances before getting fired following a 6-11 campaign.
He worked with the Chiefs — and Borgonzi — before accepting the position with Chicago. Nagy originally joined the team as quarterbacks coach in 2013 before getting promoted to offensive coordinator three years later.
Kansas City head coach Andy Reid said that Nagy “deserves to be a head football coach in this league.”
“I really feel good about where I’m at,” Nagy told reporters Thursday, according to Arrowhead Pride. “And again, here we are at the end of the season. So this is the time where this stuff comes up.
“I’ve prepared for several years since I went through it at the right time. And everything that I went through in Chicago? It all happened for a reason. And to be able to come back here in Kansas City and be here with Coach Reid and all these players is special. So we’ll just continue to work through all that and see whatever happens. But it’s fun — and it’s just that time of the year. So be ready for it.”

Despite winning two of the last three Super Bowls, the Chiefs’ offense struggled in 2025 even before Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL in Week 15, finishing 20th in yards per game (320.6) and 21st in points per game (21.3).
Spagnuolo, the former Giants defensive coordinator and interim head coach who could also be a candidate for Big Blue’s opening, helped the Chiefs allow the 10th-fewest yards per game (301.5) and the sixth-fewest points per game (19.3) this season.
“Yeah, I mean, I’m not gonna go down that road right now,” Spagnuolo told reporters Thursday, according to Arrowhead Pride. “I mean, I’m involved in [preparing for the Raiders] — but listen, I’m a prideful guy. We’ll see what happens at the end of the year and we’ll take it from there.”
Joseph also has previous experience as a head coach with Denver from 2017-18, while Anarumo was the defensive coordinator of the Bengals team that advanced to the Super Bowl in February 2022.
The perk of the Titans’ job revolves around Cam Ward, the No. 1 overall pick in last year’s draft, who flashed his potential at times during a rookie season when he threw for 3,169 yards, 15 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Ward sustained a shoulder injury in the team’s Week 18 loss to the Jaguars.
