Chiefs lose receiver Skyy Moore to injury after blockbuster DeAndre Hopkins trade

The Kansas City Shuffle has taken over the Chiefs’ wide receiver room.

Just 22 minutes after announcing the acquisition of DeAndre Hopkins, the NFL’s last unbeaten team revealed Thursday they were placing third-year wideout Skyy Moore on injured reserve with a core muscle injury.

Four of the Chiefs’ nine rostered wide receivers are already on IR, with Moore joining Hollywood Brown, Rashee Rice and Jaaron Hayek in the hands of Kansas City’s trainers.

Not on the IR but reportedly also out for the Chiefs’ Week 8 matchup against Las Vegas is veteran JuJu Smith-Schuster with a hamstrain strain he aggravated in Sunday’s win over the 49ers.

As for Moore, his status change came as a suprise.

The 24-year-old was a full participant in Wednesday’s practice and carried no injury designation. There had been no public mentions of a core muscle injury until the team’s announcement.

Through his first six games of the season, Moore logged only three targets and failed to haul in any of them. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes hadn’t looked his way since Kansas City’s 17-10 road victory over the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 3.

Moore did add two kickoff returns for 43 yards.

Reinforcements, though, have arrived at a fortuitous time.

News of the deal broke Wednesday, but the deal wasn’t officially announced by Kansas City until Thursday.

Across his 12 NFL seasons with the Texans, Cardinals and Titans, Hopkins has 12,528 receiving yards and 79 touchdowns.

Among active players, he leads the league with 943 receptions, per Pro Football Reference

The second-best mark belongs to his new teammate, Travis Kelce (935).

When the Chiefs travel west to face off against the 2-5 Raiders this Sunday, the duo — provided Hopkins plays — will take the field together for the first time in their careers.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4:25 p.m. ET.
