Chiefs chowing up in style to kick off the 2024 season
The Ravens are a top threat to the Chiefs’ three-peat hopes
Opening the season against a team you lost to in a conference championship game might reacti the sting a team felt when its season ended, but the Baltimore Ravens, which lost the AFC title game at home to the Super Bowl champion Chiefs, were the No. 1 seed in the AFC last season and boast the league’s reigning MVP in Lamar Jackson.
They’ll have a chance to make a statement on opening night in Kansas City, as they — and and the NFL at-large — look to see who, if anyone, can knock the Chiefs off their perch this season. Yahoo Sports’ Frank Schwab says the Ravens are one of the biggest threats to the Chiefs’ now 2-year reign atop the league in 2024.
“The Ravens were awesome last season and while they didn’t have a great offseason, they bring a lot back and have a long history of being contenders. In the matchup against the Chiefs prior to the AFC title game last postseason, Baltimore won 36-35 in a thrilling comeback early in the 2021 season. So it’s not like they can’t beat the Chiefs. Like the 49ers, they just have to finish the job. Maybe it’s this season.”
Kansas City is looking to head into uncharted water with a third straight Super Bowl title
The 105th NFL Season kicks off tonight as the two-time defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs unveil another title banner in the Patrick Mahomes era in K.C. To this point, the 59th season of the Super Bowl era, no team has managed to win three straight championships and the Chiefs last season were a repeat champ for the 9th instance in the Super Bowl era.
Yahoo Sports’ Charles Robinson wrote about just how difficult that is to do, and what these Chiefs can learn from the teams who’ve tried before them.
“These eight failed opportunities show a wide array of avenues that could lead the Chiefs into a tailspin this season. And if you were to go back in time, it was hard to see some of the failures coming. All it takes is one significant spate of injuries, or a few players falling off unexpectedly — or a single game-turning play or moment that nobody sees coming. And just like that, the pursuit for three straight Super Bowl wins ends.”
