Dave Portnoy continued to pile on Justin Herbert after the Chargers star suffered yet another early playoff exit on Sunday.
The Barstool Sports founder and noted Patriots fan blasted the quarterback multiple times last year following Los Angeles’ postseason defeat to the Texans, and when the signal-caller once again faltered in a 16-3 loss to New England at Gillette Stadium, he took more shots.
“I’ve been a Justin Herbert truther from Day One,” Portnoy said. “And by the way, his protection was not that bad through the first half, first three quarters. Guy’s just not a big-game guy.”
Herbert completed 19 of his 31 pass attempts against the Patriots for just 159 yards. He fumbled twice — losing one — was sacked six times and pressured 30 times on just 31 pass attempts, according to Pro Football Focus.
He’s now 0-3 in his postseason career.
Portnoy has a history of coming down hard on the 27-year-old throughout his tenure in the league, especially after he threw four interceptions in the Chargers’ 2025 playoff-opening loss to Houston.

“He sucks,” Portnoy said of Herbert at the time. “I don’t care what tools he has. You know who had tools? Jeff George. Sucked. You know who has tools? JaMarcus Russell. Sucked.
“What is the infatuation with this f—king guy?”
Herbert’s first-career playoff defeat came in the wild-card round of the 2022 season, when he and the Chargers jumped out to a 27-0 lead on the Jaguars, but somehow lost, 31-30.
For Herbert’s part, he did shoulder the blame for the Bolts’ performance Sunday, telling media members in the postgame, “I didn’t play well enough and didn’t make any plays.
“When it mattered most we didn’t score any points.”
