It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Derek Carr would be open to playing with Davante Adams again.
As the Saints quarterback — and former Raider — told reporters on Thursday, “I think all 32 quarterbacks would love to play with Davante.”
Adams has been headline news around the NFL after he reportedly asked to be traded from the Raiders earlier this week, and ESPN reported that the Saints and Jets were high on Adams’ wish list.
Both teams feature quarterbacks that Adams played with — Aaron Rodgers with the Packers (2014-21) and Carr for one season in Las Vegas in 2022.
“We would welcome that,” Carr told reporters about Adams coming to New Orleans, per ESPN. “I don’t know if I can get in trouble for saying that. I just think everyone kind of knows that … I think everyone would love to play with Tay. I would obviously welcome playing with him again if that ever worked out in our careers.”
Adams had one of the best NFL seasons of his career with Carr, who was also his college QB at Fresno State, recording 1,516 receiving yards and an NFL-best 14 touchdown catches in 2022.
Their reunion was short-lived, though, as the Raiders released Carr in 2023.
The 2022 Raiders (6-11) didn’t win as many games as some would have expected, but Carr said, “It wasn’t all bad.”
“I think it was like the second-best year of his career [with me]. The narrative that it didn’t work out is correct because we didn’t win as many games. But when it comes to getting him the ball and him scoring a lot of touchdowns, I think it went pretty good,” Carr said.
The two have remained close, and Carr said that their two families still vacation together.
Carr and Adams have talked this week but have not discussed the trade rumors.
The signal-caller explained that they don’t talk about “business stuff.”
The Raiders reportedly would consider a trade of Adams if a package included a second-round draft pick and additional compensation.
