Penn State quarterback Drew Allar is waiting to make his jump to the NFL.
The 20-year-old is returning to the Nittany Lions in 2025, which prompted backup Beau Pribula to enter the transfer portal ahead of the team’s CFP game against SMU on Saturday.
The star quarterback has seen his draft stock rise from a potential second-round pick to a potential top 10 first-round pick
“This season has been the most fun I’ve ever had in my entire life playing football and I’m so proud of what we’ve accomplished as a team,” Allar said in a post on X. “I know there’s still more work to do which is why I look forward to making more memories with my teammates this year and beyond. But right now we are solely on the opportunity we have as a team in front of us. WE ARE.”
Penn State was given the most advantageous spot in the College Football Playoff bracket, with a round-one matchup against SMU, where they are big favorites, and then Boise State in a potential second-round game, where they will again be expected to win.
CBS Sports previously projected Allar as the potential No. 3 quarterback off the board behind Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Miami’s Cam Ward, rather than Texas’ Quinn Ewers or Georgia’s Carson Beck.
Pribula, who has had a role in the team’s offense this season seemingly was given a heads up about this decision as he entered the transfer portal on Sunday, realizing he wasn’t going to compete for the starting quarterback role.
“We got problems in college football, and I can give you my word Beau Pribula did not want to leave our program, and he did not want to leave our program until the end of the season,” Penn State coach James Franklin told reporters Monday. “But the way the portal is and the timing of it and the way our team is playing, and when you play the position of quarterback and there’s only one spot and those spots are filling up, he felt like he was put in a no-win situation, and I agree with him.”
Allar profiles as a top star in college football in 2025, along with Arch Manning of Texas.
Allar has thrown for 46 touchdowns and nine interceptions in his two seasons with Penn State and has seen his completion percentage rise from 59.9 percent to 69.1 percent in 2024.
The Nittany Lions quarterback was the No. 1 high school quarterback in the class of 2022 and No. 3 overall recruit nationally.
Allar received offers from Ohio State, Michigan, and Notre Dame before agreeing to go to Penn State.
Had Allar entered what is considered a poor quarterback draft class, he likely would’ve gotten a close examination by the 2-12 Giants, who could end up with the No. 1 pick.
