It didn’t take long for Gleyber Torres to disappoint his new team.
Torres suffered a left oblique strain while he mashed a home run in the Tigers’ loss to the Dodgers Friday night, landing him on the 10-day injured list — his first IL stint since 2021.
The 28-year-old Torres was known for his durability with the Yankees, missing just 34 games across the past three seasons.
The stint will prevent Torres from taking on his former team as Detroit hosts the Yankees on April 7-9.
While Torres will technically be eligible to return in the middle of that series, it is likely the oblique strain keeps him sidelined longer than that.
The second baseman left the Yankees this offseason after they elected not to extend a contract offer following seven seasons with the team.
The Tigers signed him to a one-year, $15 million contract as he looks to prove himself worthy of a more long-term deal.
He has not minced his words since his departure, telling The Post in spring training that “I feel I deserve to be with an organization that wants me,” and “I’m here [in Detroit] now and that’s the reason I’m here.”
Through his two healthy games, Torres slotted in at second base for the Tigers, who deployed the youngster Colt Keith there for most of last season.
With Torres in the lineup, Detroit slid Keith over to first base and had former first overall draft pick Spencer Torkelson at DH.
Torres was 3-for-7 in the first two games before the injury.
The Tigers recalled Justyn-Henry Malloy from Triple-A, who has taken over DH duties while Keith and Torkelson return to their typical spots in the field.
For Detroit, signing Torres felt more like insurance for if Torkelson couldn’t improve from his struggles in his first few years in the league.
But Torkelson had an incredible spring training and has looked the part through the first four games as well.
Pairing that with Keith’s and Malloy’s potential, Torres could wind up being the odd man out for the Tigers — especially if he has to battle injury for any longer.
