How a tip from Hall of Famer Ray Allen unleashed Miles McBride’s 3-point game

SAN ANTONIO — Four years later, Miles McBride remembers the conversation with Ray Allen as a catalyst for leaps in his jump shooting, figuratively and literally.

Allen, a permanent resident on the Mount Rushmore of long-distance shooters, was at MSG to pass the torch to Steph Curry, who broke Allen’s all-time 3-point record on Dec. 14, 2021, against the Knicks.

McBride logged 21 minutes in that game, a career high to that point. But back then, as a rookie, he was more of a G Leaguer who may or may not crack an NBA rotation. Three-point efficiency was McBride’s bugaboo, and that evening he came to Allen with questions and a readiness to absorb whatever a legend was selling.

“He probably didn’t realize I was going to lock in on whatever he was saying,” McBride told Post Sports+.
