The last time the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers met was in week one of the 2024 season.
In that São Paulo showdown — the game, which was the first in Latin America in NFL history, took place at Corinthians Arena — Jalen Hurts and the Birds prevailed and won 34-29 over Jordan Love’s Pack.
Four short months later, the competitive NFC teams are facing off again in the NFC Wild Card round at Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, Jan. 12 at 4:30 p.m.
This time around, the 14-3 Eagles aren’t at 100%. Hurts is currently in concussion protocol and head coach Nick Sirianni hasn’t declared whether or not he’ll play yet. Backup quarterback Kenny Pickett suffered a rib injury in a week 17 contest against the Commanders, which means it’s possible third-string QB Tanner McKee may get the nod.
“I got a lot of confidence in both of the guys,” Sirianni said. “When Kenny’s had to play, he’s played really well. When Tanner has had to play, he’s played really well. We got a really good (quarterback) room.”
Luckily for the Eagles, the 11-6 Packers are also on shaky footing. Matt LaFleur’s squad lost their final game of the season against the lowly Chicago Bears and also possibly quarterback Jordan Love and wide receiver Jordan Watson.
Love claimed he expected to play against the Eagles in a postgame press conference; when asked about Watson, LaFleur said “I’m not…confident about that right now.”

About the Packers vs. Eagles matchup
Dating back to 1933 (!), the Eagles and Packers have gone toe-to-toe 47 times. As of now, Green Bay holds the all-time record against Philly with a 28-19 record.
Over the course of the 2024 regular season, the Eagles went 14-3; this Wild Card game marks their fourth consecutive year they’d advanced to the playoffs. To reward the team, the NFL selected six Birds for the 2025 Pro Bowl. They are running back Saquon Barkley, offensive tackle Lane Johnson, offensive guard Landon Dickerson, center Cam Jurgens, interior lineman Jalen Carter and inside linebacker Zack Baun.
The Packers also put together an impressive 2024 campaign, marred by a collapse in their aforementioned final game against the Bears. To their credit, the Pack also had their work cut out for them in the NFL’s most competitive division, the NFC North, which includes the 15-2 Detroit Lions and 14-3 Minnesota Vikings. In any event, this is the team’s second consecutive year they’ve moved onto the postseason. In January 2024, they beat the Cowboys in the Wild Card round before falling to the eventual NFC champion 49ers in the Divisional round.
