It’s the unofficial start to the New York Giants’ 100th NFL season.
Tonight, the G-men will open their preseason against the Detroit Lions at home.
Following two spirited and intense joint training sessions between the two teams, it’s expected that a significant number of the Giants starters won’t play tonight, per ESPN’s Jordan Raanan. That includes rookie WR Malik Nabers and starting QB Daniel Jones, who is back after missing a significant part of last season with a torn ACL.
Jones is still hoping for some preseason action, though, to test his surgically repaired ACL.
There are two more preseason matchups for the Giants, including one against their stadium-mates, the New York Jets.

In the aftermath, both teams were fined $200,00 by the NFL for violating a memo sent around to all teams that started, “fighting and unprofessional conduct at joint practices would not be tolerated” during joint practices.
