The “bridge’’ quarterback is a thing because of the absolute dearth of “franchise’’ quarterbacks in the NFL. “Franchise’’ is one of those in-vogue terms that became a part of NFL jargon a few years back.
Look at the teams with a “franchise’’ quarterback and you’ll find that, entering the final week of the NFL regular season, they’re all playoff bound:
