Jacoby Brissett is anticipating being on the field in the Patriots’ season opener against the Bengals.

Despite a strong showing from rookie quarterback Drake Maye on Sunday, Brissett told WEEI on Tuesday that he sees himself as the QB1 on New England’s depth chart.

“In my eyes, I am [starting Week 1],” Brissett said. “I haven’t heard anything differently. So that’s what I have to go off of.”

Brissett, who is in his second stint with the Patriots, only played one drive during the team’s final preseason game on Sunday after injuring his shoulder, but he insisted he’s “100 percent fine.”

“It’s good,” Brissett said of his shoulder. “I think it was more of like a precautionary measure … I’m fine. I hadn’t gotten hit in eight months, so it kinda surprised me more than anything. I feel good, excited, ready for the season.”

After being the presumed starter all preseason, Brissett may have had his job stolen by Maye, the third overall pick in this year’s draft, who had another strong showing against the Commanders, throwing for 126 yards and a touchdown.

Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo indicated that his team’s quarterback spot may be more of a competition after all, thanks to the rookie’s play.

“What I will say is this is a true competition … and I would say at this current point, Drake has outplayed Jacoby,” Mayo said on WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show” on Monday. “Now in saying that, we have to take in the full body of work, going all the way back to the spring and beginning of training camp, and we’ll see where we end up. But those are the conversations that will happen here over the next couple of days.”

The 31-year-old Brissett, on the other hand, wasn’t quite as impressive, throwing for 36 yards on 5 of 14 passes with an interception in three preseason appearances.
