Jets add playing-making corner Nahshon Wright to revamped defense on one-year deal

The Jets added another piece to their new-look defense Tuesday.

The team agreed to a one-year contract worth up to $5.5 million with former Bears cornerback Nahshon Wright, a source confirmed.

Wright had five interceptions last season for Chicago, along with 11 pass breakups in 17 games.

The Jets desperately needed to add players with the ability to create turnovers. They had zero interceptions in 2025 and just four takeaways.

The 6-foot-4 Wright is a long, rangy cornerback who can help Aaron Glenn’s defense.

The knock on Wright is that he gives up too many big plays. PFF credited him with eight touchdowns allowed last year.

Wright likely will compete with Azareye’h Thomas to start opposite Brandon Stephens. The Jets have tried to revamp their defense this week in free agency.

They agreed to a trade for All-Pro safety Minkah Fitzpatrick on Monday and agreed to deals with veteran linebacker Demario Davis, defensive tackle David Onyemata, safety Dane Belton, and edge rushers Joseph Ossai and Kingsley Enagbare.

The 27-year-old Wright joined the Bears last year after one season with the Vikings, where he was mainly on the practice squad.

In his first game with the Bears, he returned an interception 74 yards for a touchdown against the Vikings. He started 16 regular-season games and two playoff games for the Bears.

He had two forced fumbles in addition to his five interceptions.

Wright was originally a third-round pick by the Cowboys. He played three seasons in Dallas.
