Jets Week 4 report card: Ugly loss is terrible look for Robert Saleh

Grading the Jets’ 10-9 Week 4 loss to the Broncos on Sunday:

Offense

The Jets failed to score a touchdown and looked out of sync all day.

QB Aaron Rodgers (24 of 42, 225 yards, 72.0 rating) did not have his best day but he was running for his life for most of the time.

He was sacked five times and hit 14 times.

Aaron Rodgers was hit 14 times during the Jets' loss to the Broncos on Sept. 29.

The Jets committed five false start penalties in the game.

They averaged 2.8 yards per rush.

RB Breece Hall (10 rushes, 4 yards, 1 drop, 2 penalties) had his worst game as a Jet.

Grade: F

Defense

This felt familiar.

The Jets defense played well but there was no margin for error with the way the offense played.

That was what life was like with Zach Wilson at quarterback.

It was supposed to change with Rodgers.

Rookie QB Bo Nix (12 of 25, 60 yards, 1 TD, 67.9 rating) was terrible but found a way to score one touchdown and that was good enough for Denver.

The Jets did not get one sack on Nix and only hit him twice.

Bo Nix was good enough for the Broncos during their win against the Jets on Sept. 29.

The Jets’ run defense faltered late in the game and Javonte Williams (16 rushes, 77 yards) ripped off some big gains.

The Jets forced one turnover.

Grade: C+

Special teams

Greg Zuerlein made three field goals but missed the 50-yard potential game-winner.

Irv Charles had an inexcusable penalty when he drilled the Broncos punt returner.

Punter Thomas Morstead had his usual solid day with three punts inside the 20 and a 56-yarder that flipped the field in the first quarter.

Grade: C

Coaching

This one looks bad for Robert Saleh.

The Jets had nine days to prepare for an inferior opponent with a rookie quarterback at home.

Instead of beating up on the Broncos, the Jets coughed up a winnable game.

That falls on Saleh, as does the undisciplined play of his team (13 penalties).

Offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett had a terrible day.

Why not use Braelon Allen at the goal line?

How about adjusting to the Broncos’ pressure?

Defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich did not have a great day, either.

Thank you

Even though the Jets defense played well, they did not get to Nix at all.

That is on Ulbrich.
