There are no sure things.

John Harbaugh shook free from the Ravens on Tuesday and even for someone with his track record, concerns about possible staleness after nearly two decades in Baltimore will need to be investigated. These concerns, of course, fall into the “mild’’ category, given his stature in and around NFL circles.

And so, going hard and heavy for a candidate who was 8-26 the past two seasons, with back-to-back last-place finishes, brings a been-there, done-that vibe to the Giants, considering where they have been the past two years. Kevin Stefanski is so much more than what is on his résumé in 2024 and 2025, and that is why he will interview with the Giants on Wednesday, in person, and should be considered a bona fide contender to get through the process and emerge as the replacement for Brian Daboll — depending on which direction Harbaugh wants to go.

There are no favorites at this moment — although Harbaugh moves to the top of many lists — and there are names floating around and multiple interviews scheduled. General manager Joe Schoen is leading the search and there are former head coaches and offensive and defensive coordinators on his list.
