PORT ST. LUCIE — Francisco Alvarez stood at home plate watching his long drive die in front of the left field fence during live batting practice Wednesday.

In a good-natured jab, Alvarez let the pitcher, Kodai Senga, know that the wind at Clover Park had prevented the ball from traveling out.

Senga had his own perspective.

“That is a mispitch, so he needs to drive that thing out of here,” Senga later said through an interpreter.
