The brouhaha between the Fitzgeralds and the Mosses seems to have reached its conclusion.
Larry Fitzgerald Sr. — who “broke” the news that Randy Moss was battling liver cancer, news that Randy’s son, Thaddeus, called “disgusting” and “not true” — made his first public comment, or no-comment, on Thursday.
“I have no comment other than I know Randy, love Randy and I’m praying for Randy,” Fitzgerald Sr. told DailyMail.com in his first comments since the rebuke.
It’s an unrevealing culmination to an all-around embarrassing debacle. A story that wouldn’t be a story if not for an-out-of-turn take that took the internet by storm.
Early in December, Moss — the Hall of Fame wide receiver turned ESPN analyst — appeared on air sporting a pair of sunglasses.
“If y’all see me with these Michigan turnover glasses that I have on, it’s not being disrespectful because I’m on television, man. I’m battling something. I need all the prayer warriors,” the six-time Pro Bowler dutifully explained.
In a post to X that has since been deleted, Fitzgerald Sr., a sports reporter in the Minnesota area, wrote, “66th NFF Hall of Fame Ceremony here in Las Vegas just heard that Vikings HOF Randy Moss has liver cancer. Let’s show the power of prayer and pull Moss through this 🙏🙏🙏 I love you Randy.”
Brett Favre, who played with Moss in Minnesota, was among those who heard the news and echoed his prayers and support.
Appreciated though the kind words were, as it turns out, Favre and the legions of other kindred spirits got their news from an unverified source.
Thaddeus Moss responded to Fizgerald Sr. in an X post, also since deleted, that read, “This is disgusting. You have no right to try to make private matters public for the sake of engagement. I do not believe my father talks to you, so check your f–king sources.”
Fitzgerald Sr.’s son, former star receiver of the Arizona Cardinals, Larry Fitzgerald Jr., reportedly responded as well, writing, “Dad, I think it’s best to respect his privacy on this. If he feels ready to share more about his health, he will. In the meantime, let’s focus on sending him positive energy, prayers, and support rather than speculating.”
Moss has not released any additional details about his health condition at this time.
