Mariners OF Julio Rodríguez pulls out of MLB All-Star Game, is replaced by teammate Randy Arozarena

The American League will be trading in one Seattle Mariners outfielder for another at the MLB All-Star Game, as Mariners center fielder Julio Rodríguez will be replaced by left fielder Randy Arozarena.

Rodríguez, a somewhat controversial selection in the first place, announced Friday on social media that he was withdrawing from the exhibition, saying he wanted to focus on the latter half of the season.

But Seattle will still have representation in the AL outfield: The league announced later Friday that Arozarena will be Rodríguez’s replacement. In connection with discourse about whether Rodríguez deserved his All-Star spot, Arozarena was considered one of the biggest All-Star snubs this year.
