A New York City FC great will be back for another season.
Maxi Moralez will return to the club for the 2026 campaign, marking his 10th season with NYCFC since arriving in the Big Apple in 2017, after speculation that last year could be his final one on the pitch. Moralez had been one of NYCFC’s most reliable players, appearing in all 34 regular-season matches and in all five of their postseason games.
“I’m very happy to be back with New York City FC for another season,” he said in a statement. “This Club is home for me, and I’m motivated to keep helping the team and working toward our objectives. We know what we’re capable of as a group, and my focus is on giving everything I have to help us compete and win trophies this season.”

Moralez had been an important piece of NYCFC’s run to the Eastern Conference Finals and he lifted the club to a win over the Philadelphia Union in the conference semis with the game’s only goal.
The 38-year-old Argentine made MLS history in 2025 as the oldest player to appear in every MLS match since the league adopted the format in 2011. He is NYCFC’s franchise leader in goal contributions with 139.
“Maxi produced a stellar season in 2025, demonstrating the consistency, creativity, and leadership that have defined his time with the Club,” NYCFC sporting director Todd Dunivant said. “Maxi continues to impact games in meaningful ways, and beyond the on-field contributions, Maxi’s experience, competitiveness, and approach around the locker room help reinforce the Club’s identity. We’re pleased to have Maxi back with New York City for another season.”
Moralez will turn 39 next month and questions about how much longer he has left will surely reappear again this year.
