Mets-Phillies game delayed by bizarre outfield microphone complaint

The Mets got a surprising mic check on Monday night.

The Phillies, visiting Citi Field to play their NL East rivals, caused a minutes-long delay in the top of the fifth inning when they claimed they were distracted by the glare off a parabolic microphone in the outfield.

Philadelphia third baseman Alec Bohm raised the issue after he grounded into a double play — which came after righty Kodai Senga was replaced by southpaw Jose Castillo, drastically changing the batter’s sightline with the game tied at 3.

The nature of the delay left plenty of folks scratching their heads.

“This is one of the sillier delays I’ve ever seen,” SNY’s Gary Cohen said.

He wasn’t alone in the gripe department.

“Jesus, both teams are playing with the same set of circumstances. Let’s move on and get the game going,” WFAN’s Boomer Esiason wrote on X, adding, “This Mets/Phillies delay is asinine.”
