Mexico international Julián Araujo will be out for an unspecified number of months after suffering a hamstring injury last week that led to surgery on Thursday, confirmed Premier League side Bournemouth.

“The right-back was assessed immediately following Saturday’s match at Brentford, before club staff consulted with specialists on Monday. The results of an MRI scan determined surgery would be the best course of action for Julián’s recovery,” Bournemouth said in a news release.

“The club’s performance and medicine staff will now support Julián through a comprehensive rehabilitation process over the coming months. Everybody at AFC Bournemouth wishes Julián a swift recovery.”

Araujo, 23, was seen limping in pain last Saturday during the final minutes of Bournemouth’s 3-2 away loss to Brentford. His appearance was his eighth of the Premier League season.

“Faith over fear. I am very happy to have undergone a successful surgery and to already be on the path to recovery,” the U.S.-born former LA Galaxy player said on social media.

Araujo was recently left out of a call-up for Mexico’s upcoming Concacaf Nations League quarterfinal matches vs. Honduras on Nov. 15 and 19. The winner of the series will book a spot into the semifinal round and 2025’s Concacaf Gold Cup tournament.

Bournemouth are currently 12th in the league after a 4W-3D-4L start to the season.

After the international break, they’ll face 6th place side Brighton on Nov. 23.
