A seismic movement that reverberated across all corners of the NFL landscape created another gaping hole in the head coach market with the news that Mike Tomlin stepped down Tuesday after 19 years with the Steelers.

This adds the iconic Tomlin to a free agent coach class that already includes John Harbaugh, fired last week after 18 years with the Ravens. Have there ever been two such important league figures in a candidate pool at the same time?

For the Giants, this means … not much. They remain laser-focused on landing Harbaugh as their 21st head coach in franchise history. Tomlin is expected to sit out the 2026 season — the Giants believe this to be the case — spend a year in television and perhaps hop back on the coaching carousel in 2027.

The Giants, Titans and Falcons should be considered top contenders in the Harbaugh Sweepstakes, with formal interviews expected in the coming days with those three teams.
