Move over Taylor Swift, Crocky-J might be stealing the focus of football fans this season.
No, Crocky-J isn’t the next pop megastar, rather he is the pet alligator of Chiefs running back Carson Steele and was featured on the NBC broadcast of Thursday’s Kansas City season opener against the Ravens.
Steele revealed in August that he owned the pet reptile and that he had been given a number of nicknames for the creature.
“I got him second or third grade probably as a Christmas present,” Steele told reporters last month, according to KCTV. “So I’ve had him a little while now. He’s in a big aquarium back home.”
The NBC broadcast cut to a shot of Crocky J as the announcers were talking about Steele’s unusual pet, who was back at home with Steele’s parents in Indiana while he worked on getting the proper documentation for the alligator to come to Kansas City.
Social media users immediately fell in love with the pet and took to X to voice their excitement over Crocky J.
“Just learned about Crocky J and I would die for him,” one person wrote.
“I’m here for Crocky J,” another commented.
“Let’s get more Crocky J less Taylor this season,” a third person wrote.
Steele impressed plenty of people during training camp and the preseason after signing with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent.
During a recent episode of “The New Heights Podcast,” Travis Kelce praised Steele and what he was able to do during training camp.
“I think he’s a little bit more than a fullback. He’s athletic, and he can do some things with the ball in his hand,” Kelce said.
“On top of that, he’s a big special teams guy. A whatever you need me to do coach kind of guy.”
