NFL news updates: Rashee Rice undergoing tests, Anthony Richardson’s hip injury not so serious, Vikings remain undefeated
  • Information on Rashee Rice’s injury may not come until later

Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters Monday that wide receiver Rashee Rice is still undergoing tests, meaning that full clarity on a potentially season-ending knee injury may not come until later.

  • The Haason Reddick situation isn’t getting resolved soon

Ian Rapoport dashes the dreams of Jets fans hoping the team can unload Haason Reddick back to Philly. Aside from the fact that Philly wouldn’t take him back even if the Jets paid them, it’s against the NFL rules.

The #Jets situation with Haason Reddick still has no resolution & some wondered if NYJ could trade him back to the #Eagles. Turns out, per NFL rules, not possible.

Teams can’t trade a player, then reacquire him via trade until 2 years elapse. Reddick won’t head back to Philly. pic.twitter.com/yHGE28zPNY

  • Doug Pederson’s failure to win and develop Trevor Lawrence could cost him his job

Nearly three years ago, it felt like a perfect fit. The Jacksonville Jaguars had a near-mutiny under head coach Urban Meyer, quarterback Trevor Lawrence looked like a mess, and the franchise was spiraling toward another double-digit loss season. In the expanse of Shad Khan’s ownership of the team, it felt like a rarefied opportunity with a generational quarterback was in jeopardy.

In response, Khan hired Doug Pederson.

Imagine Khan’s dismay Sunday, after watching his Jaguars lose a 24-20 agony game to a Houston Texans team that is following the precise trajectory that was charted by the Jaguars when Pederson got his hands onto the team. By Year 3 of his tenure? Jacksonville was supposed to be battling for AFC supremacy and Lawrence should have taken lengthy strides toward the league’s elite tier of quarterbacks. Instead, time in Jacksonville is a flat circle and the Jaguars are mired in Friedrich Nietzsche’s trench of eternal recurrence.

This is another way of saying the Jaguars are what they were … and may inevitably become what they have already been.

  • Broncos RB Tyler Badie back in Denver with team

#Broncos promising young RB Tyler Badie, who left yesterday’s game on a backboard, has full movement of his arms and legs and is back in Denver with the team, sources say. Very positive.

He did suffer a back injury that may land him on IR, but there is a chance he can be back. pic.twitter.com/35vb1YWHLe

  • Why can’t the Commanders win the NFC East?

Every NFL season has its fair share of surprises where teams over or underperform based on the preconceptions that people had for them coming into the year. Through the quarter mark of the season, there hasn’t been a team that’s exceeded initial expectations more than the Washington Commanders, who sit at 3-1 and currently hold a one-game lead for first place in the NFC East.

That is just incredible, considering they were coming off of a season where they were bad enough to need a new coaching staff and quarterback — but they’re off to a roaring start. A week after they scored 38 points against the Bengals, the Commanders went to Arizona and absolutely lit up the Cardinals en route to a 42-14 beatdown on the road.

  • #Steelers starting guard James Daniels suffered an Achilles tear Sunday against Indy, per source. He will be out for the season. Tough blow for a steady starter up front.

  • Commanders QB Jayden Daniels putting up Tom Brady-esque stats

Might want to keep an eye on this Jayden Daniels kid. Through his first four games he’s got a better completion percent than some guy named Tom Brady in his 2007 season. The Commanders may have gotten a real one in the 2024 NFL Draft, folks.

  • Anthony Richardson’s hip injury reportedly not so bad

Good news for Colts fans: the injury that took QB Anthony Richardson out of Sunday’s win against the Steelers doesn’t appear to be that bad. Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network reported that the Colts were acting with an abundance of caution when they ruled him out, but he appears to have avoided major injury.

Good news is Anthony Richardson suffered a hip pointer and isn’t expected to miss much, if any, game time, per sources.

Colts decided to be safe taking precaution ruling out their franchise QB yesterday. He’s sore & dealing with pain but appears to have avoided major injury. https://t.co/SORkX0DzMx
