PHOENIX – Nolan McLean is not only feeling well enough to rejoin the American team in Houston to start the final game of pool play on March 10, but Team USA manager Mark De Rosa told The Post the Mets young sensation would pitch the March 17 final if he remains fine and the Americans get there.
McLean reported having vertigo-like symptoms and not feeling well late last week. He continued his usual throwing, but felt ill enough that he did not join the American team for its first workout Monday in Arizona.
But by Tuesday he was improved enough that the original plans remain in place – he will join the team in Houston to start March 10 against Italy. He then is lined up to pitch the final March 17 in Miami if the U.S. advances.
Some of that is about scheduling. Because Giants ace Logan Webb will start the literal MLB regular season opener on March 25 against the Yankees, he is going to start the Pool Play opener Friday against Brazil and a quarterfinal game if the U.S. gets there. Then to keep him lined up to pitch the Tigers opener, Tarik Skubal is slated to make his only Team USA start the next day against Great Britain.
