Pesky Pole hilariously obstructs broadcast of Fenway Bowl

Somebody get that Pesky Pole out of the way.

The right-field foul pole at Fenway Park in Boston — named after former player Johnny Pesky — served as a viewing impediment to Saturday’s broadcast of the Wasabi Fenway Bowl between North Carolina and UConn.

Fenway, which opened in 1912, is notorious for its obstructed-view seating, but the yellow foul pole was in full view of the game action on the right side of the screen — blocking a view of some of the players — as the field stretched from the third-base dugout towards the center-field wall.

Sportswriter Rodger Sherman noted on Bluesky that the two previous Fenway Bowl games used a “weird” but different camera angle that “did not include a giant yellow pole blocking the view of the game.”

Patriots legend Bill Belichick, who was hired earlier this month as the Tar Heels new coach beginning in 2025, was not in attendance at the game.

UConn went on to win the game 27-14.
