While the Mets ultimately make sense for Pete Alonso since he’s a fan favorite, he had a big October and he’s probably less than a season away from being the all-time franchise leader in home runs, they seem more focused on superstar Juan Soto at the moment, so here are some other possibilities for Alonso.

1. Giants: They are always looking to add stars, and haven’t had the easiest time doing so.

2. Mariners: They could use the offense, but that’s a tough place to hit, especially for a right-handed hitter. And there’s little belief they are spending big this winter.

3. Astros: They seem focused on Alex Bregman at the moment, so they may go cheaper at 1B.

4. Blue Jays: They could move Vladimir Guerrero Jr. to third.

5. Red Sox: There’s buzz about a potential trade of Triston Casas, but that may not go beyond the buzz for the talented kid.

6. Phillies: While they could move Bryce Harper back to the outfield, this idea was termed “unlikely” as Harper is outstanding at first and they’d probably have to move Nick Castellanos or Kyle Schwarber, which seems very unlikely.

7. Orioles: They have a new owner who’s expected to try harder.

8. Diamondbacks: They’d surely like to keep Christian Walker, but Alonso could be a backup plan.
