Quinnen Williams aims to finish out ‘frustrating’ Jets season despite hamstring issue

Quinnen Williams is questionable for Sunday’s game against the Rams due to a hamstring injury, but the Jets’ $96 million defensive tackle isn’t thinking about taking off any of their remaining games to heal with the team out of the playoff hunt once again.

The Jets (4-10) have missed the playoffs in each year of the former first-round pick’s six-year NFL career and a league-worst 14 straight years overall.

“I want to play every single day, no matter the record, no matter the situation, man,” Williams said Friday. “I want to be the person to help this team and this organization turn this thing around and be the person to help this team win football games.

“The main thing that matters, man, is to play football with my boys, the people I’ve been here with since training camp and the defensive line, the group of guys that we fight with every single day to get better. So no matter the record, no matter the situation, I want to be out there with my guys.”

The two-time Pro Bowler added that the organization’s latest losing season has been “really frustrating” for him because it started with such high expectations.

“Not only for the defense, but just the record itself,” Williams said. “No matter what you are, if you are truly a competitor, you want to win football games, especially in this league. The main thing is we need to focus each and every week on what we can do to pull these last three out.”

Williams, who has six sacks in 13 games, exited Sunday’s win against the Jaguars late in the fourth quarter with the hamstring issue and has not practiced this week.

“I’m doing what I can every single day, listening to the doctors and the trainers, and whatever I can do to get back, I’m gonna do,” he said.

Cornerback Michael Carter II (back) was the only player on the injury report listed as out for Sunday’s game. Braelon Allen (back), Leki Fotu (knee) and Alijah Vera-Tucker (ankle) are questionable.
