Secondary help appears to be on the way for the Rams.
Los Angeles is “deep in talks” with the Chiefs about a trade for star cornerback Trent McDuffie, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reported on Wednesday morning.
A potential deal, Rapoport said, would include the Rams sending one of their first-round picks (No. 29 overall) and additional compensation, including a fifth, a sixth and a 2027 third rounder, in exchange for the two-time Super Bowl champion.
Rapoport added the impending swap “should” result in a new longterm contract for the 25-year-old.
A trade to LA would reunite McDuffie with Jimmy Lake, the Rams’ defensive backs coach who helped McDuffie become a star in college at Washington.
It would also be a bit of a wish granted for McDuffie, considering some comments he made back in 2025.
While he was at an event for his T22 McDuffie Foundation, he hopped on the mic and said if he could play for another team outside of the Chiefs, it’d be the Rams.
“I’d probably want to play close to my family,” said McDuffie, who was born in Westminster, Calif. “So that’d probably be the LA Rams, so that my family could come see every single game.”
McDuffie was selected by Kansas City in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft, and it didn’t take long for him to become a star.
After starting 11 games as rookie, he logged snaps in 16 contests in his sophomore season and earned All-Pro honors.
In his four total years with the Chiefs, he played in 56 games and recorded 246 tackles, 5.5 sacks, 34 pass breakups and three interceptions.
The Rams could certainly benefit from having McDuffie on their roster — the secondary was considered their weakest unit in 2025, and with Cobie Durant slated to hit free agency, corner was a need heading into this offseason.
If and when the trade goes through, LA will pick just one time in the first round of April’s NFL draft at No. 13 overall.
