Relax, Knicks fans: There are reasons for hope after Game 1 botch-job

You’re inching toward the metaphorical ledge if you’re a Knicks fan. We get it. There are moments in every sports fan’s life you just want to throw your arms up, scribble a concession speech, surrender. Sports does that to you. Sports steals more hours of sleep than a bad breakup.

We’ve all watched Mark Gastineau rough Bernie Kosar, and the Giants blow an unblowable playoff game in San Francisco, the final indignity a botched field goal snap. We’ve all seen the Mets blow a 7 ¹/₂-game lead with 17 to play, and the Yankees gag a 3-0 series lead to the Red Sox. We’ve endured a 54-year drought from the Rangers and now a 41-year drought with the Islanders.

Sometimes the best way to deal with sports misery is simply to drown in it. Everyone’s been there. Everyone has a deep catalogue of catastrophe.

That’s where we come in today.
