Ryan Weathers, the new Yankees left-hander acquired from the Marlins for four minor leaguers Tuesday, has one thing multiple scouts agree on: “untapped potential.”
A pair of scouts used the term for Weathers on Wednesday, a day before the Yankees will introduce the 26-year-old.
“I like the gamble,’’ one American League scout said of the hard-throwing lefty, whose career has been sidetracked by injuries. “I think the Yankees are a good spot for him. They can use him different ways. Just have to keep him healthy.”
And that’s perhaps the most significant drawback to the acquisition, as Weathers has hit the injured list on multiple occasions — including twice last year with the Marlins.
