Sharks veteran center Logan Couture’s career is over due to lingering injuries, according to ESPN.

Couture, a 2007 first-round pick, is set to announce his decision Tuesday, per the report.

The 36-year-old reportedly will not retire but will remain on long-term injured reserve.

Couture has not appeared in a game this season and only made six appearances for San Jose last season due to osteitis pubis.

The ailment is described as “Osteitis pubis is inflammation in the joint between your left and right pubic bones (your pubic symphysis). It causes pain and swelling in your groin or lower abdomen” and is most common in athletes, according to my.clvelandclinic.org.

Couture worried his career may be over before the 2023-24 season, telling NHL.com that December: “I can honestly say two months ago, I would wake up and didn’t know if I was ever going to play in the NHL again.”

He made his season debut Jan. 20, 2024 and suited up for what will be the last time in his career 11 days later in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Ducks.

Couture spent his entire career with the Sharks and is one of their greatest players, scoring 323 games and tallying 378 assists to notch 701 points in 933 games.

He earned All-Rookie honors in 2010-11.

Couture finishes his career fifth in games played, third in goals, fifth in assists and fourth in points in San Jose history.

The Sharks appeared in the playoffs nine times in his first 10 seasons, reaching the conference finals four times and falling in the 2016 Stanley Cup Final to the Penguins.

This season marks the sixth straight campaign in which San Jose did not qualify for the playoffs.

Couture tallied 34 goals and 37 assists for 71 points in 82 career playoff games.

He has two years remaining, at $8 million each seasons, on his eight-year, $64 million contract.
