Shedeur Sanders pushes back on Colorado American flag controversy story: ‘Fishing for content’

Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders fired back at the people he felt were trying to create an unfair narrative around the school’s decision not to license its logo for a themed shirt.

The school had been embroiled in a controversy after it declined to allow Red Raider Outfitter to use its logo in a patriotic-themed shirt that would also feature the logo of Texas Tech.

The decision by Colorado drew criticism from Red Raider Outfitter owner Stephen Spiegelberg, who told KCBD News Channel 11 that he was pulling all Colorado merchandise from his store because “we don’t think that anybody has the right to limit the use of the American flag in this great nation.”

But Sanders hit back at the criticism calling it an attempt to fish for content.

“The CU don’t like the flag or something? Like, come on, brother, that’s sick at this point,” Shedeur said, per Awful Announcing. “Y’all just fishing for content at this point. That was very disturbing, because what I feel bad for is there’s genuine people out there who read the media that don’t know us, you know, and they believe the type of lies and the type of things — the narrative. And some people may just not have a chance to really understand what’s going on in the situation.

“But everybody that’s around the team understands that it’s week by week they’re gonna figure out something to talk about. I don’t know, but it’s just weird. And I just feel bad for those people that don’t know us; you know they’re judging us off based on somebody’s hate toward Dad.”

The controversy didn’t seem to impact Sanders or the Buffaloes on the field over the weekend when they defeated Texas Tech 41-27 and Sanders threw for 291 yards with three touchdowns.

Sanders is the son of Colorado head coach and NFL legend Deion Sanders, whose persona has led some people to show disdain toward him and the program he coaches.
