Here is the most troubling question St. John’s has to ask itself on the most sobering day of a most sobering nonconference schedule:
Have the Johnnies underachieved across these first 11 games of the season, lugging a 7-4 record away from Saturday’s 78-64 loss to Kentucky?
Or were they never as good as they were expected to be?
Those are two fair questions. And they are the essential issues the Johnnies need to figure out in the next few weeks, as conference play soon begins in a Big East where there aren’t going to be a lot of opportunities for shiny résumé wins.
