There was uncertainty from both sides, St. John’s and the Garden.

St. John’s had sold out its previous two games at MSG, and it had the opportunity to clinch the program’s first outright Big East regular-season crown since 1984-85.

Still, the idea of moving the final home game last season, against local rival Seton Hall, from Carnesecca Arena to MSG wasn’t necessarily a no-brainer despite the prices on the secondary market going through the proverbial roof.

“There was a lot of hesitation, ‘You sure you want to do that?’ from them as well as even the university,” athletic director Ed Kull recalled in a phone interview. “ ‘You want to risk doing that?’ ”
