It’s OK to get one like this every now and again. Laughers are allowed. St. John’s has lately been engaged in a string of games that, at various points, looked like they could go different ways than they went. They escaped against Xavier. They were forced to make second-half comebacks at Providence and Marquette.

No crime in any of that, of course. These are league games. These are Big East games. The win-loss records are liars: teams bring histories and grudges and all manner of baggage into these games. You don’t get a lot of gimmes.

St. John’s finally had a gimme Saturday.

It was 13-2 before most of the 19,328 were seated inside Madison Square Garden. The lead was 15 at the half, 20 early in the second, 30 not long after. It finished 81-52. Minimize that if you like: Creighton is now 14-14, and 8-9 in the Big East. The record is a liar. Three days earlier the Bluejays walked into Storrs and laid a good-sized stomping on UConn.
