Matt Rempe is the Rangers’ biggest target. Literally, by tale of the tape. And that has gone without saying when it comes to blinded referees such as Kelly Sutherland and Brian Blandino.
But the 6-foot-8 ¹/₂ winger will also become the Blueshirts’ biggest offer sheet target when he hits Group II free agency on July 1.
If, that is, the hierarchy allows No. 73 to get there by failing to lock up Rempe on a multiyear contract as he comes off his entry-level cap hit of $820,000 per year.
Because what if a team with oodles of cap space — and that might value Rempe’s attributes more than the Rangers — presents the Calgary native with a three-year offer sheet worth an AAV of $2.3 million that would carry a third-rounder as compensation?
