Another pastry-inspired mascot will be sacrificed this afternoon following the annual Pop-Tarts Bowl, but first, Georgia Tech and BYU will face off on the field at Camping World Stadium.
No. 12 BYU is considered the “second team out” this season, missing out of the College Football Playoff despite a 11-2 record. A big 34-7 loss to Texas Tech in the Big 12 championship game and another decisive loss to the Red Raiders earlier in the season sealed their CFP fate. Now, instead, they’ll play in the viral game known as “The People’s National Championship.”
The Cougars’ opponent, the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets, finished the regular season ranked No. 22. Their 9-3 record was good for second in the ACC, though they missed out on the conference title game.
