The Rangers hadn’t traded with the Islanders in nearly 16 years before president and general manager Chris Drury sent Carson Soucy to Long Island on Monday night.
It marked just the fourth trade ever between the two organizations. As cross-river rivals, doing business with one another has rarely been preferred.
That should tell you just how open the Blueshirts are in this retooling initiative.
There does appear to be a human element to this deal as well. Soucy and his wife, Shyla, just welcomed their third daughter, Sutton, into the world last week. The trade to Long Island allows the Soucy family to remain local while caring for a newborn.
