Titans release WR Treylon Burks days after he suffered a broken collarbone in training camp

Treylon Burks’ time with the Tennessee Titans is over.

The Titans waived the wide receiver Monday afternoon, days after he suffered a broken collarbone at practice. It marked the latest significant injury Burks has dealt with since landing in Tennessee.

Burks, who was set to enter his fourth season in the league, appeared in just 27 games over three seasons with the franchise that selected him with the No. 18 overall pick out of Arkansas. He missed five games in each of his first two seasons, and then went down with an ACL injury early during the 2024 campaign.

After recovering from that knee injury, Burks then went down with his collarbone injury after making a diving catch along the sideline at training camp Saturday.

In total, Burks racked up 699 yards and one touchdown on 53 catches over his three seasons with the Titans. The Titans declined his fifth-year option in May, so he was entering the last year of his rookie contract this fall.

Burks was brought into Tennessee as the presumptive replacement for A.J. Brown, who erupted after joining the Philadelphia Eagles following his start with the Titans. The Titans even used the draft pick they received in the Brown trade with the Eagles on Burks, who didn’t pan out. One of the projected top targets for quarterback Cam Ward, who the Titans selected with the top pick in the NFL Draft earlier this year, is now gone after three seasons.

The Titans have made decent efforts to bolster their wide receivers room this offseason after last year’s struggles. They brought in Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson in free agency, so there is a decent veteran presence in Nashville alongside Calvin Ridley, who led the team with 1,017 receiving yards last season. They also selected Florida’s Chimere Dike and Stanford’s Elic Ayomanor in the draft, and signed former Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver and Tennessee standout Ramel Keyton on Monday.

A definitive timeline for Burks’ recovery isn’t known, though he was expected to miss the start of the regular season recovering. Someone else is sure to give Burks a chance in the league once he’s back to full strength. Where he ends up after the rough and injury-filled start he’s had to his professional career, though, is anybody’s guess.
