Travis Hunter made a statement in Colorado’s season-opening win over North Dakota State on Thursday night.
The Buffaloes wide receiver made three touchdown catches, including a fourth-quarter snag that was described as a “miraculous, implausible, impossible catch” by the ESPN broadcast team.
Hunter finished the game with seven receptions for 132 yards, with his longest catch being a first-quarter 41-yard touchdown reception.
Hunter made the short catch and then broke a tackle with no one else in front of him to run into the end zone sending the home crowd into a frenzy in the first quarter on the Buffaloes’ opening drive of the game.
But Hunter’s first touchdown catch was outdone by the one he made in the fourth quarter to give the Buffaloes some breathing room with their lead only just four points.
Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders turned and threw to Hunter in the corner of the end zone, battling with a North Dakota defender, somehow managing to get his arms around the defensive back to make the impressive catch.
The catch had social media buzzing and some of sports’ biggest names were in awe of the play by the receiver.
“MAN TRAVIS HUNTER IS RIDICULOUS!!!!! WOW,” wrote basketball superstar LeBron James on X.
“Whoever got that first pick, idc if you need a Lineman or QB Travis Hunter is one of one,” Dolphins wideout Tyreek Hill wrote.
“Shedeur Sanders isn’t just a top 5 pick. Travis Hunter isn’t just a top 5 pick. They are both worthy of being the 1st pick in the NFL Draft,” Robert Griffin III added on X, discussing both Hunter and Sanders, who also had a big game.
Sanders threw four touchdown passes, including a 70-yard TD pass, finishing the game with 445 passing yards.
Colorado will face Nebraska in their second week of the college football season and all eyes will be on Hunter to see if he can add to his incredible performance to start the year.
