What Jets coach Jeff Ulbrich told Malachi Corley after unbelievable mistake

Malachi Corley owes Garrett Wilson dinner — maybe a few of them.

Wilson’s two brilliant touchdown catches in the Jets’ 21-13 win over the Texans turned Corley’s epic blunder into an embarrassing afterthought, as opposed to the featured lowlight that it initially seemed destined to be.

At the time, though, it left Jets interim coach Jell Ulbrich stewing.

“Definitely frustrated to be honest — and angry at the same time,’’ Ulbrich told reporters. “But what an amazing opportunity for this kid to grow and learn from. I promise you, 10 years from now when he’s still playing in this league, that will never happen again.’’

Corley was poised to score his first NFL touchdown on the opening play of the second quarter when he was streaking towards the end zone on a reverse.

However, Corley tried speeding up his celebration and dropped the ball before it crossed the goal line.

Ulrbrich, who had just earned his first win as Jets coach, shared some of what he told Corley after the play.

“First of all, you can’t do that,’’ Ulbrich said.

It was just the second offensive touch for the rookie out of Western Kentucky all season.

“I said we needed to score 28-30 points,” quarterback Aaron Rodgers said on the Amazon postgame show.

“Tonight, I am counting 28. We scored 21 and we had another … uhh miss at the goal line, but I am proud of the way we responded in the second half.”

The 3-6 Jets take on the Cardinals next Sunday as they look to salvage their season.
