Don’t stick a fork in the Giants’ three-pronged plan to create a formidable rushing attack just yet.
There is not enough of a body of evidence to make any definitive statements about the 2024 NFL season.
But the initial evidence suggested that it might not be as easy to replace Saquon Barkley’s year-over-year production with a committee of fresh legs, an attack-minded offensive scheme and an improved offensive line as thought by some analytics-loyalists who devalue running backs. The duo of Devin Singletary and rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. averaged 3.2 yards per carry in a 28-6 season-opening loss to the Vikings.
The biggest piece of the Giants’ plan was to reallocate the resources that would have been required to re-sign Barkley for nearly $13 million per year into the blocking. Starting left guard Jon Runyan Jr. ($10 million), right guard Greg Van Roten ($2 million) and right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor ($7 million) were acquired.
