Brewers shortstop Willy Adames acknowledged that he “ just said something back” to Jesse Winker when the two were seen jawing at each other in the top of the second of the Mets’ Game 1 win in the NL Wild Card Series

Just what that was might be left up for the lip readers and psychics to figure out, but Adames expressed some surprise over the interaction with his former Brewers teammate.

Neither player went into too much detail about the verbal shouting match that appeared to stem from Winker saying something after hitting a game-tying triple.

“I don’t know what was going through his head, but he just started saying some stuff. I just said something back. I think that’s just the kind of player he is. It is what it is,” Adames told reporters.

ESPN cameras caught Winker chirping from third base, and another angle saw Adames firing back toward the Mets outfielder.

A breakdown of the at-bat from Jomboy Media claimed that part of the exchange included Winker saying: “[What do you] wanna do about it?” while looking at Adames.

The social media video also claimed that Adames said in response: “I’ll let you know in the parking lot after the game.”

Winker opted not to detail the interaction when he spoke with reporters, first telling media members that Adames said “nothing” before trying to move past the topic.

“I don’t really want to speak on it, I just want to focus on the game tomorrow,” he said.

“That was surprising that he was saying some stuff,” Adames said with a bit of a smirk. “I guess that’s part of his personality. It was just a little bit of a surprise to me, but we don’t back off.”

Adames and Winker had spent time as teammates on last year’s Brewers team.

The Mets’ win on Tuesday night put them one win away from advancing to the NLDS, where they’d face the Phillies.
